HOMECOMING
HOMECOMING is an emotional poem that uses the imagery of a soldier to describe the pain and agony involved in waiting for the return of our loved one, who fought a tiring battle and left the battle ground victoriously.
I kissed the bed that has lost its warmth while
still waiting patiently for your HOMECOMING.
The war isn’t over as it still hasn’t begun.
The incisions of the swords and daggers would not have treated my heart any better.
I felt your absence in the presence of your memories.
Like the soldiers in the trenches was I traumatized by the enemies above, whose footsteps echoed amidst the sound of the wrecking cannon balls.
Behind the sacks of hope I fought the battle knowing the enemies of war were not outside but within my encroached heart.
Post the war was I rescued lying alone on the barren battle ground, bruised and hurt but still
waiting patiently for your HOMECOMING.
